چکیده

In [WK94], we define a real-time producers/consumers problem where all tasks are periodic and all resources are non-sharable/non-reusable. In this paper, we study the same problem but with sharable resources. We define a quantitative measure, resource freshness ratio (RFR), to represent the effect of sharable versus non-sharable resources on improving the resource freshness when tasks start simultaneously. We consider the RFR values for both average case freshness (ACF) andworst case freshness (WCF), i.e., RFR 23 and RFR 12 if all <-producer tasks have shorter cycle time than any of the<-consumer tasks, wherem is the amount of < consumed in one hyper-cycle. Both bounds are tight. We also explain why these results are useful in the domain of real-time network monitoring, control, and management. Non-Sharable Resource Freshness in Real Time Scheduling

We propose, DONUT, a real-time producers/consumers model, as an abstract model for developing real-time scheduling and resource allocation techniques in the domain of real-time network management. Under this model, we consider not only the availability but also the freshness of the consumed resources (i.e., “donuts”). Given a resource type <, two quantitative measures are defined to evaluate th...

Optimized Sharable-Slot Allocation Using Multiple Channels to Reduce Data-Gathering Delay in Wireless Sensor Networks

The demand for event-driven real-time applications for timely and reliable data acquisition is growing in industrial sectors. However, it is challenging to satisfy the requirements since constraints such as limited available energy and bandwidth are inherent in a wireless sensor network. To deal with timely delivery, one desirable approach is to improve network throughput so that more real-time...

Ontology Instance Matching based MPEG-7 Resource Integration

Heterogeneous multimedia contents are annotated by a sharable formal conceptualization, often called ontology, and these contents, regardless of their media, become sharable resources/instances. Integration of the sharable resources and acquisition of diverse knowledge is getting researchers’ attention at a rapid pace. In this regard, MPEG-7 standard convertible to semantic Resource Description...

Mining Long, Sharable Patterns in Trajectories of Moving Objects

The efficient analysis of spatio–temporal data, generated by moving objects, is an essential requirement for intelligent location–based services. Spatiotemporal rules can be found by constructing spatio–temporal baskets, from which traditional association rule mining methods can discover spatio–temporal rules. When the items in the baskets are spatio–temporal identifiers and are derived from tr...

ANTS: Agent-Based Navigational Training System

There is an explosive growth of e-learning trend during the last few years. More and more learning resources are generated by different purposes in the world. How to make the learning resources to be sharable and reusable is a key factor in e-learning environment. This paper presents a system framework of Agent-based Navigational Training System (ANTS) to facilitate lecturers and learners achie...
